Red Willow SDA Church, October’s Sermon of the Month, and an Upcoming Event.
I’m writing this on a plane to Honolulu and my computer battery is about to die, so I have to be quick and I ask for your pardon with any potential typos.
I’d like to give you all a quick update on Red Willow, let you know about the October Website Sermon of the Month, and ask for your prayers with our upcoming Event here in Honolulu this coming Friday.
First, for those of you were praying for the meetings in Red Willow, thank you so much. Rarely have I felt God’s spirit poured out in a weekend event as I did this last weekend. From the first time I walked in the door, I simply felt “wow, this feels like home.”
The church has a great atmosphere. Very progressive, and also truly incorporates some essential elements of the Kingdom into their fellowship. I really enjoyed myself there. I gave a talk Friday night on Luke 11 (if you’ve been listening to our podcasts for the last two months, you’ll be familiar with the content) and the response was astounding. So many shared with me that this was exactly what they had been needing. One dear sister convinced here husband who was a police officer who got off work at 4:00 a.m. Saturday morning to come to church instead of sleep. He came and after church, came up to me and shared that he had decided to stay all day! I gave a presentation on the Cross for Church which reflected many new insights I’ve been pondering over the last year or so. Afterward, there was a graduating High School student that came up to me and shared that she had been doing Bible studies for four years and had gone back and forth on whether or not she wanted to be baptized. But that after hearing what I shared about the cross, she said, if God was anything like THAT, she was in! She was selling out! Submitting all and wanting to follow a Jesus/God like that! I was blown away and humbled. God is so beautiful if we can simply just see Him for what He really is.
It was an amazing weekend for sure, and I believe I will be going back in 2014 to do a full length (ten day) series with Red Willow as they seek to reach out to their community with the message that God is love.
It was a rich weekend theologically, philosophically, and relationally and I’m really looking forward to going back already.
Also, we have updated the website for October. So if anyone is keeping up with the sermon of the months, here is the description on our website for it:
Freedom, Permission & Control
The subject of harmonizing the picture many get of God from the Old Testament with the picture of God we find in the person of Jesus Christ is no simple task. It is many faceted for sure, but one that we at RHM feel is necessary for many of the folks we have met. There are so many questions and so few real answers. This month we’d like to share with you one of the attempts made by Herb at the 2010 summers’ Redwood Camp Meeting. Herb wanted us to tell you, it’s not in any sense exhaustive on the subject, but this presentation does give us a few more tools to help our hearts decipher why the two pictures of God found between the testaments can be, at times, so challenging. We pray you will be richly blessed and that your relationship with God will be deepened as you listen to this month’s free presentation: Freedom, Permission, and Controlby Herb Montgomery. From all of us here at RHM, keep living in love and keep building the Kingdom.
Also, remember, starting this Friday night, October 7, we will be beginning our brand new The Jesus Dialogue series at the Honolulu Central SDA Church in Honolulu, Hawaii. If you are in the area, please stop by, I’d love to see you. If you are not, please partner with us in prayer for this all important event. And if you are interested in catching the new content (I’m so excited about this stuff, can you tell?) we will be aiming at uploading each presentation the following day so everyone can take it all in.
Remember, each one of you, God so radically loves you! Live in that love, allow that love to flow out to those around you whom you live with and whom you meet, love like Christ.
This is what it’s all about. Radical, Other-centered, Self Sacrificial, Humble, Servant Love, from God, reflected in Jesus, flowing through each of us to the world around us.
Thank you for all your prayers. I truly do feel them.
Keep building the Kingdom!
I love you guys,
